How you can partner with us

On this page you will find information on partnering in prayer as well as financial gifts. Be sure to scroll all the way down for FAQs!
By Prayer
Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:10-12 ESV

As missionaries we depend on the prayers of God’s people. The power of prayer is great and we cannot ignore the necessity of prayer in every aspect of our lives. As we prepare for, and begin, ministry would you pray for us?

Here are some of our most common requests:

Pray for our finances to remain stable
Pray for our faith in God to deepen
Pray that God would be glorified in and through our lives
Pray for our health
Pray for strength in our marriage and family
Pray for all the people that we’ll meet and relationships that will be developed
Pray that we would live 1Thessalonians 5:16-18 (“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.“)

We will be sending regular prayer letters and updates ( sign up here! ), as well as update this blog, so we will make you aware of more specific prayer needs as they arise.

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ.
Colossians 4:2-3a ESV

SIM is a “faith mission“. This means that “The Mission looks to the Lord for the provision of its needs. Each missionary acknowledges that his or her dependence is upon God and not upon the Mission. Recognising the biblical principle of stewardship, the Mission and its missionaries make such needs known to God’s people so He may guide them in their giving. Whatever is received toward an approved need is accepted as a provision from the Lord.” (from the SIM Manual, 2010)

As missionaries with SIM we are trusting God to raise 100% of all our expenses and we would love to have you partner with us as we serve in South Africa.

Our ongoing MONTHLY needs total: $6,561

What does this figure include?

Salary – This amount will be our living expenses for each month. It includes food, clothing, transportation, utilities, toiletries and household items, as well as insurance deductibles and co-pays. We will also use a portion of this for our own giving.

Insurance – This includes premiums for emergency medical insurance in the event that any one of us needs to be evacuated to a country with better medical care.

Housing – This covers our rent while we are in South Africa. All utilities and repairs will come out of our salary budget.

Administration – This covers MANY things. SIM assists missionaries in navigating the world of visas, passports, and other legal aspects of international travel and living. Additionally, they provide team training and consulting on the field, operating expenses for seven international sending bases and an international headquarters office, resources to help us share our vision and the vision of SIM, and attention to our emotional and spiritual needs in the event of a political or medical evacuation.

Retirement – This is a small amount of money to be contributed to a 403b. This is something SIM encourages as retirement savings become necessary in the U.S.

Taxes – Missionaries pay something equivalent to FICA called the SECA tax.

Ministry – As stated above, this is money that is used specifically for our ministry-related needs. Any ministry-specific travel, supplies, communications, and licenses are included in this budget.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can funds be withdrawn directly from my account?
A: Only with your authorization via your electronic signature. No one can deduct money from your account automatically unless you specifically authorize it.

Q: Are electronic contributions risky?
A: No. An electronic contribution is safer than writing a check; it can not be lost, stolen or destroyed in the mail. All Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) transactions are governed by strict national rules and guidelines. Over four billion EFT transactions are processed annually in the United States.

Q: When would this automatic contribution be taken from my account?
A: On the signup screens, you can specify whether you want your contribution made one time, in which case the donation would be made from your account on the next business day, or on a recurring basis. You can set up monthly recurring transactions to be made on the 15th of each month. When the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, the transaction will occur on the next banking day.

Q: Can I try out the service by giving one time?
A: Yes. You may try Online giving by selecting “One Time"? in the frequency drop down box in the signup process. You will see how easy and efficient the process really is.

Q: If I do not write checks, how do I keep my checkbook balance straight?
A: Your contribution is made on a pre-established day, so you can deduct it from your check record then.

Q: How can I keep a record of the amount I have contributed?
A: Your bank statement will include an itemized list of automatic gifts given from your account. SIM USA will continue to provide you with a personal receipt for your tax records.

Q: What if I change banks, accounts or want to change the amount of my contribution?
A: You can change your giving choices at any time through the “Give Support"? page accessed through the SIM home web page.

Q: Is there any charge to me from my bank to give online?
A: No. Electronic fund transfers carry no bank fees.

Q: Whom do I talk to if I have more questions?
A: Please contact the USA Receipting Department at (800) 521-6449; they will be glad to answer any other questions you may have.
