Hope at the Table

Welcome to our journey
Doug. Ellen. Nathaniel. Josiah. Luke.
The Porter family is serving in South Africa as full-time missionaries with  SIM! We work with Living Hope , which is a local ministry serving several underprivileged communities in the southern subarbs of Cape Town.

Doug spends much of his time teaching the home-based care health workers in the communities how to study the Bible in order to share the gospel more effectively with their patients. He also works closely with the drug and alcohol rehab program encouraging the clients through teaching and strategy games. Ellen uses her nursing skills to conduct regular inservice training for the care team in Living Hope's Health Care Centre as well as conducts weekly patient chart audits.

The boys are making new friends and learning how to share God's love with everyone around them.

The Purpose of our Website
Why do we call our website"Hope at the Table"?
HOPE: We are part of a local ministry called Living Hope. We thought it was appropriate to include the word “hope” in the name of our website, but we wanted to acknowledge the deeper meaning. Jesus spent much of his life on earth in the presence of the “least of these” – the poor, the destitute, widows, orphans, prostitutes, outcasts, etc… He was hope to the hopeless.
